My Trip in Kaohsiung
During the National Day holidays last month, I went back to Kaohsiung with my friends and visited many places that I haven’t seen before. To my surprise, there are plenty of good places I know about but never go to. How lazy I am to not visit these places in my hometown. I guess I didn’t notice them because I stay at home for most of my vacations and holidays; I think I am worthy of the nickname my friends always make fun of me, as a homebody. I visited some tourist spots such as the Kaohsiung Main Public Library, the Pier-2 Art Center, and Cijin. I had a great time celebrating this Nation Day.

I visited the Kaohsiung Main Public Library as my first stop. You may not consider a local library as a tourist spot, and neither do I. Honestly, the library may be the last place I want to visit in my leisure time. I mean, that’s a place for nerds or diligent high school students preparing for their essential tests, and I am neither of them. However, I did discover some interesting things in the library. In the library, there was an event named “Blind Date with a Book”. What’s special about the event? There were a bunch of books wrapped in dedicated kraft paper, so you couldn’t know the titles of the books. However, there were previous readers’ reviews on the covers. People could only choose books depending on their reviews instead of titles. Though I am not a bookworm, I genuinely love the idea. Besides the event, there was a small section where you could read your fortune by solving an easy puzzle game. The results were encouraging sentences quoted from various books. I was surprised that the Kaohsiung Main Public Library isn’t just like an ordinary library. It’s able to attract people to pay a visit, and I guarantee it’s worth visiting.
Soon after visiting the Kaohsiung Main Public Library, I headed to the Pier-2 Art Center to take the ferry to Cijin. Before taking the ferry, my friends and I roamed around the site. The art center is beautiful and lively with many gigantic sculptures and creative graffitis on the streets; it’s indeed a nice place for parents and their children to spend quality time. What impressed me the most was a sculpture of a huge dog-like creature which got the face of Mao Zedong on its genitals. Bizzare enough for me. Due to the limitation of time, we didn’t stay long. What a shame! Later on, we went to Cijin by taking the ferry. Pretty convenient. Speaking about Cijin, it’s fortunate that I have a friend who just lives there. So, naturally, he became our tour guide. He brought us to the beach of Cijin which is a famous place that tourists should visit. Though the weather was a little cloudy, it didn’t impact our mood to have fun on the beach.

I had a great time on the trip, and I really should stop staying at my home and being a couch potato all the vacations and holidays. I guess there are still some good places near my home I never go to and worth my attention and visit.
